Split ACs generally cost slightly more to service than window ACs because there are two units and connecting piping to check instead of one, but window ACs can be quicker and cheaper to repair for common faults since everything is accessible in a single compact body.
A split AC has an indoor unit, an outdoor unit, and the piping connecting them — a technician needs to check all three, since a fault (or dust buildup) can be in any of them. This generally means a slightly longer service visit and, for repairs, more diagnostic time to isolate exactly where the problem is.
Since the compressor, coil and fan all sit in one compact body, there's no piping to check and no separate outdoor unit to access — for common faults like a weak-cooling issue or a noisy fan, a technician can often diagnose and fix a window AC faster than the equivalent split AC issue.
Routine servicing costs are fairly similar between the two for a standard clean. The bigger cost gap tends to appear in installation (split ACs need piping and mounting work window units don't) and in certain repairs — a split AC's outdoor unit being harder to access (rooftop, high wall mount) can add to labour time in a way a ground-level or window-mounted unit usually doesn't.
For routine servicing, costs are broadly similar; window ACs can have an edge on repair speed and installation cost, but split ACs generally offer quieter operation and better cooling distribution, which many buyers value enough to offset the difference.
Not necessarily more frequent — the recommended interval is similar — but a split AC service does involve checking more components (two units plus piping) in a single visit.
Split ACs have more piping and joints where a slow leak can develop, so they're somewhat more exposed to this specific issue, though a well-installed system of either type shouldn't leak under normal conditions.
